If you are fan of music festivals, then the Summer University “Bulgarian Symphony: Ancient Cities and Modern Sounds” is a must-go place for you. The event takes place from 10th to 19th of August 2025. There are 25 spots available.
GT: What is the title and what is the main topic of your SU this year?
AEGEE-Sofia: The title of our SU is “Bulgarian Symphony: Ancient Cities and Modern Sounds”, and the main topic is discovering a music festival at an abandoned ex-Soviet headquarters and learning about the ancient history of Bulgaria.
GT: Why did you choose the topic?
AEGEE-Sofia: We chose the topic given the symbolical location of the monument. Situated right in the heart of Bulgaria, it overlooks many other historical landmarks. We also chose it because the music festival will take place there.
GT: What will be the greatest thematic programme highlights?
AEGEE-Sofia: Right at the symbolic site of the Soviet monument, there are wide green fields overlooking the Bulgarian heartland. That’s where we will hold our history and geography workshops. On the day of the music festival, we will also have time to demonstrate our traditional dances to the participants.
GT: Which other cities and landmarks will you visit?
AEGEE-Sofia: We will visit the one-of-a-kind Soviet monument of Buzludzha, the ancient city of Plovdiv, and travel on one of the narrowest narrow-gauge railways in Europe, the Tesnolineika.
GT: What else will you do for fun?
AEGEE-Sofia: We will go to Bansko, which is a ski and mountain hiking resort. There will be an optional spa visit for an additional fee. We will also explore Plovdiv and Sofia – the details are still a secret…
GT: How much is the fee and what is included in it?
AEGEE-Sofia: The fee is 180 Euro and includes transportation within Bulgaria, two nice meals per day, amazing accommodation in different locations across the country, and the opportunity to experience a music festival at the heart of Bulgaria in a futuristic ex-Soviet monument – and much more! There is an optional fee of 30 Euro, which covers additional travel expenses and the visit to the spa resort.
GT: Who is the ideal participant?
AEGEE-Sofia: The perfect participant is someone who’s up for an adventure and ready to dive headfirst into everything Bulgaria has to offer!
GT: What can you tell us about your AEGEE local, what makes it special or famous?
AEGEE-Sofia: Our AEGEE local isn’t big, but we are a close-knit group. We’re known – at least among those who have visited us or met us elsewhere in Europe – for our warm and captivating personalities.
GT: Where can interested people find out more about your SU?
AEGEE: They can find more about our SU soon on our Instagram and definitely on MyAegee, where you can also apply: https://my.aegee.eu/summeruniversity/bulgarian-symphony-ancient-cities-and-modern-sounds.
GT: Do you have a message to potential applicants?
AEGEE-Sofia: We hope you bring your adventurous spirit and boundless energy for this trip – we can’t wait to meet you!
