Nr 10 of 2014 – AEGEE-Eskisehir: The Unexpected Green Journey

AEGEE-Eskisehir: “The Unexpected Green Journey”
GT: Are you organising it with another antenna?
AEGEE-Eskisehir: No, we believe that it is better to do it alone.
GT: What’s the date?
AEGEE-Eskisehir: 2nd till 16th of July.
GT: What’s the main topic and the three main highlights?
AEGEE-Eskisehir: We will focus on green issues and history in our SU. Nature life, historical places and joy are our main highlights. We plan to discover nature while smelling the history. This combination will give our participants the chance to get to know this part of the world better.
GT: Which cities will you visit?
AEGEE-Eskisehir: We will start from Eskisehir. Then we will go on with İzmir, Ephesus, Sirince, and Marmaris. We will see both nature and history in those places.

GT: What’s the title of your SU in 2015?
AEGEE-León: The title is: “The Way of St. James vol. 5: Discover your Dark Side”.
GT: Are you organising it with another antenna?
AEGEE-León: We will to do it alone, but maybe we will have some help of AEGEE-Porto.
GT: What’s the date?
AEGEE-León: We will start on the 20th of August in León and end on the 3rd of September in Porto.
GT: What’s the main topic and the three main highlights?
AEGEE-León: The main topic is the Way of St. James, but we will have sea, nature and hours of fun too.
GT: Which cities will you visit?
AEGEE-León: Mainly León, Santiago de Compostela and Porto, but in our way we will get to know other beautiful places.

Nr 8 – AEGEE-Izmir: Blank Cheque in 2015
GT: What’s the title of your SU in 2015?
Mert Mutaf, SU Coordinator: The name of our SU is “Blank Cheque in 2015”.
GT: Are you organising it with another antenna?
Mert: We are organising a Travel SU, but since SUCT let us, we will do it as one antenna.
GT: What’s the date of your SU?
Mert: The dates are 3rd till 17th of August. This is the best date for travelling, because of the weather.
GT: What’s the main topic and the three main highlights?
Mert: Our main theme is competitions; the highlights are more like a surprise but, there will be really cool thematic parties too. But the most important things are that our SU will be historically powerful, because of the places we will visit. It will have a brilliant nightlife, we will experience the most attractive beaches and boat tours in the Aegean Sea. The biggest highlight will be our organising team and the participants, we will be close like a family and make the best time. This is why AEGEE-Izmir’s SUs are so attractive!
GT: Which cities will you visit?
Mert: We will start in İzmir as always. After that we will stay in Özdere, which is a beautiful summer place, and we will go to Fethiye for five more days. These are the main points. We will also visit Ephesus, Çeşme or Foça, Kuşadası, Çiçekliköy and more cities and towns.

Mert: People who are interested can ask me whatever they want. I will answer all questions, as long as they are not about our surprises of course. Nr 7 – AEGEE-Köln: The purSUit of happiness! Adventure. Culture. Now.
GT: What’s the title of your SU in 2015?
Marius Rühling: “The purSUit of happiness! Adventure. Culture. Now.“
GT: Are you organising it with another antenna?
Marius: Yes, AEGEE-Köln and AEGEE-Osnabrück are organising the SU together.
GT: What’s the date of your SU?
Marius: The SU will start on 1st of August in Osnabrück and on 16th of August in Cologne.
GT: What’s the main topic and the three main highlights?
Marius: Actually, there are two main topics. We will have a mixture between cultural and adventurous outdoor activities. Some of the highlights will be a canoeing tour, visiting a brewery and city tours including the famous cathedral in Cologne as well as interactive language courses and excursions to other cities. But these are only very few of the activities we are planning – and our team is continuously working on the final programme to add even more highlights!
GT: Which cities will you visit?
Marius: We will spend most of the time in Osnabrück and Cologne but also visit some of the neighbouring cities. We surprise and update you soon.

Nr 7 – AEGEE-Eindhoven: Master course for a Dutch-German cocktail
What’s the title of your SU in 2015?
Roos Anne Kniest, main SU organiser: The title of our TSU is: “Master course for a Dutch-German cocktail”.
GT: Are you organising it with another antenna?
Roos Anne: We are organizing the TSU together with AEGEE-Darmstadt and AEGEE-Mainz-Wiesbaden.
GT: What’s the date of your SU?
Roos Anne: It will start on the 4th and end on the 18th of July.
GT: What’s the main topic and the three main highlights?
Roos Anne: The main topic of our TSU is to get to know the Dutch and German culture. We will do that by several traditional Dutch and German activities and by visiting some amazing cities, such as Frankfurt, the Manhattan of Europe, and Amsterdam, arguably the most multicultural city of the world! And besides that we will cycle through the Dutch landscape and even across the border into Belgium!

Roos Anne: Mainz, Darmstadt, Frankfurt, Eindhoven, Amsterdam and some small villages.

Nr 6 – AEGEE-Kyiv: Across the UAniverse
GT: What’s the title of your SU in 2015?
Anna Pykhtina, President of AEGEE-Kyiv: “Across the UAniverse”.
GT: Are you organising it with another antenna?
Anna: Yes, we are united as much as we can with AEGEE-Kharkiv, AEGEE-Dnipropetrovsk, AEGEE-Ivano-Frankivsk and AEGEE-Lviv.
GT: What’s the date of your SU?
Anna: We start on 3rd of July and finish on 19th, so 17 amazing day to explore Ukraine!
GT: What’s the main topic and the three main highlights?
United in this historical and life changing moment for our country, we are going to show you all the differences and similarities of different parts of Ukraine in art, language, music, history and culture. Traveling across all Ukraine, seeing East and West of the country, you will feel the real spirit you always were curious about! You and the team of real AEGEEans will take the challenge to visit our country from Kharkiv to Lviv – we will walk and travel by train for 1000 kilometers, we will go through the centuries, from ancient times to present days. With memories of the historical places, you will experience the busy life of big cities of today and you will feel the peacefulness of the Carpathian Mountains. All cities are famous for something different, even the typical Ukrainian dress, vyshyvanka, that all AEGEEans might have seen in European nights, has different type of embroidery and it has its own history. Knowing culture, traditions and history of the country will help our participants to understand its present better.

Anna: We will cross Ukraine from East to West: Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv are waiting for you to come!

Nr 4 – AEGEE-Valencia: LaegeeNDARY (K)nights
GT: What’s the title of your SU in 2015?
Kike Asensi, Secretary of AEGEE-Valencia: The title is “LaegeeNDARY (K)nights”.
GT: Are you organising it with another antenna?
Kike: We are organizing it together with AEGEE-Castelló.
GT: What’s the date of your SU?
Kike: It will take place from 17th to 28th of August.
GT: What’s the main topic and the three main highlights?
Kike: We will discover the Mediterranean history of the Valencia and Castellon regions through their castles and festivals. The main highlights will be the visit to Peñiscola castle, the gastronomy workshop “how to cook a paella” and the Tomatina festival.
GT: Which cities will you visit?
Kike: Benicassim, Peñiscola, Castellon de la Plana, Sagunto, Valencia and Buñol.

Nr 3 – AEGEE-Helsinki: SUrvivor, the Midnight Sun edition
GT: What’s the title of your SU in 2015?
Juanlo Alonso, main organiser: Survivor, the Midnight Sun edition.
GT: Are you rganizing it with another antenna?
Juanlo: After three years of great external cooperation with other antennae, we are flying solo this time. We want to challenge ourselves full-on by carrying out the programme we’ve always dreamed of.
GT: What’s the date?
Juanlo: It will take place from the 9th to the 20th of July.
GT: What’s the main topic?
Juanlo: The main topic of our SU is to show people what it feels like to live a summer with a midnight sun: how the edges of reality get blurred and the perception of time loses its grasp. All of this, of course, framed by the setting of Finnish culture and the idyllic Nordic summer.
GT: Can you name the three main highlights?
Juanlo: First of all, a long-time favorite in our past SUs, the “Heaven on earth” lakeside cottage in Märkiö – this is something incredible. It’s the favorite part for our participants for years. We would hope that every AEGEE member would have the chance to experience a few days in there. The second favorite part every year is the boat party. This year we’ll visit Tallinn. On the way we’ll have a night on a big ferry with three clubs and tax-free alcohol. You put that and a big group of AEGEE people together and you can only have a great time. The third part of the programme is the SUrvivor competition: we are going to keep your blood pumping throughout the SU, bonding participants together and helping us make this the most exciting summer you can remember!
GT: Which cities will you visit?
Juanlo: We will visit three cities in Finland: Helsinki, Espoo and Nurmijärvi in Finland; and we will also see Tallinn in Estonia.

Nr 3 – AEGEE-Tartu: High-tech forEST
GT: What’s the title of your SU in 2015?
Janely Pae, SU main coordinator: The title is „High-tech forEST“.
GT: Are you organising it with another antenna?
Janely: Yes, this year AEGEE-Tartu is joining forces with AEGEE-Tallinn. Tartu has the cookies and Tallinn is the chocolate filling.
GT: What’s the date?
Janely: The dates are 15th to 29 of July.
GT: What’s the main topic and the three main highlights?
Janely: The topic of this year’s Travelling Summer University is focused on the two main treasures of Estonia – high technology and untouched nature. It is hard to point out only three highlights, we will get to know all the most innovative high-tech that can be found in Estonia, also we will dive deep into the traditions and culture of Estonia, we will have days packed with awesome activities, balanced out with relaxing in the spa and beach.
GT: Which cities will you visit?
Janely: We will visit Tallinn, with its high-tech and nightlife; Tartu, which has the prime student chill out spots; Viljandi, which captivates Estonian idyllic nature and culture; and Pärnu, which is offering the best relaxation at spa and beach.

Nr 2 – AEGEE-Alicante: Where the SUn rises
GT: What’s the title of your SU in 2015?
Melissa Carreres, President of AEGEE-Alicante & main SU organiser 2015: “Alicante, where the SUn rises”. The name of the East coast of Spain, the place where Alicante is located, is “Levante”, and it means “Where the sun rises”.
GT: Are you organising it with another antenna?
Melissa: No, organising a TSU is one of our plans we have for the future, but at the moment we prefer our new members to take part in this project, so they get more experience at organising events – and perhaps become more active in AEGEE. Also, we are very happy with last year’s results. We think that if a formula works, there is no reason to change it, we just need to improve it and work hard so this year we will be the first in the ranking.
GT: What’s the date of your SU?
Melissa: 16th till 28th of July.
GT: What’s the main topic and the three main highlights?
Melissa: The main topic is: “Get rid of stereotypes and find out the real lifestyle of Levante, the South East coast of Spain”. With our awesome SU, you will discover how Mediterranean people enjoy life in the Levante region. You will learn about our culture and traditions and you will be delighted with our gastronomy. And last but not least, you will discover how to have the best SUmmer of your life in our AEGEE-Alicante’s style! We will do not only our best, but also the impossible to make you feel like home!
GT: Which cities will you visit?
Melissa: We will visit at least five different cities. Alicante, which is the capital city of the region. Elche, the second biggest city in our area, famous for having almost as many palm trees as inhabitants, more than 200.000. We will also see Altea, Benidorm and Calpe, three coast cities located in the North of Alicante, which are known for the diversity and variety of activities they can offer, such as hiking, Summer festivals, biking, traditional markets, traditional festivities, traditional Mediterranean meals…

Nr 1 – AEGEE-Catania: AeGeE of Mythology
GT: What’s the title of your SU in 2015?
Roberto Patanè, main organiser: After the last three years, we decided to change the main topic of this SU, so the title is “AeGeE of Mythology”.
GT: Are you organising it with another antenna?
Roberto: This year, thanks to the amazing work of our cohesive team of organizers, we decided to organize the SU without help of another antenna.
GT: What’s the date of your SU?
Roberto: The SU will take place from 7th to 18th of August, like always it is around the Feast of the Assumption.
GT: What’s the main topic and the three main highlights?
Alfio Bonaccorsi, Vice President: As you can understand from the title, “AeGeE of Mythology” is a jump back in the past to our roots, which belong to the Greek and the Roman empire. You can see in the video that Sicily has an amazing heritage of these cultures, therefore we are going to share this with our participants. Like we always did with our previous SU team: every trip, game and activity will be connected to the theme, the participants will live it daily and truly!
GT: Which cities will you visit?
Alfio: Starting from Catania, we will visit Taormina, the “Pearl of the Ionic Sea”, then we will go to two beautiful sea spots, Acicastello and Acitrezza. And even if it is not a city, we will go up on the tallest volcano in Europe, the Etna! That’s on the schedule, but we love to give surprises, so who knows…
