AEGEE’s Comité Directeur announced that the European Parliament adopted the declaration for the statute of the European associations which AEGEE helped to shape. “Today is a celebration day!”, said Manos Valasis, president of AEGEE-Europe. The declaration is about building a European active citizenship, administrative simplification and establishing a transparent functioning for associations and NGOs. It was adopted with 381 signature
“AEGEE was involved in this process from the very beginning. We joined the European Alliance that was formed from organisations and had a very active role in it”, adds Manos. “My CD colleague Alfredo Selitti and I were in the EP talking to Members of the European Parliament and convincing them to sign the declaration.”
In preparation, AEGEE locals were also involved following the CD’s request in January, helping the declaration to pass. Manos Valasis explicitely thanked AEGEE-Sofia, AEGEE-Patra, AEGEE-Peiraias, AEGEE-Budapest, AEGEE-Cagliari, AEGEE-Bari, AEGEE-Cluj-Napoca, AEGEE-Craiova, AEGEE-Ploiesti, AEGEE-Sibiu, AEGEE-Timisoara, AEGEE-Riga, AEGEE-Poznan, AEGEE-Torun and AEGEE-Maribor. Manos: “This is a very important first step in a long process, but the topic is back for the agenda for good, so let’s enjoy this first victory!”
