Many AEGEE members wonder how many CDs there have been in the history of the association and who these people were. The answer you will find below – in the one and only and complete list of the members of every Comité Directeur of AEGEE-Europe.
There is a lot to tell about the people you will encounter on this page. They literally wrote the history of AEGEE-Europe. When you look at them, you will notice that the CDs got smaller over the years. Well, this had to do with the fact that only from 1996 onwards every member of every Comité Directeur had to live in the new headoffice in Brussels. This made the work more efficient, but was also more costly. Hence: smaller CDs.
The first CD election took place at the autumn Agora 1986 in Heidelberg in November 1986. The first CD was the result of the founding meeting of AEGEE in Paris in July 1985. Seven months later, in February 1986, a group of active members were invited to Leiden, where the second CD was appointed without election. This lack of legitimation was actually resulting in one of the first motions ever in AEGEE, at the spring Agora 1986 in München. The motion text in the minutes says: “Thus the Comite Directeur which was created at the meeting at Leiden forfeits all democratic legisiation. Its appointment was not achieved at legitimate means. The present condition which is incompatible with democratic principles of orqanisation must be terminated fortwith.” However, the Agora rejected the motion, stressing that the people present in Leiden in February 1986 actually voted about the list of CD members.
As you may notice, the numbering of the boards differs slightly from the numbers currently in use. While this list below follows a inherent logic, the CD of the term 2019/20 did not take into account the CD from April to July 2019. This however is not logical, since also the comparable CD from May to August 2012 has an own number. Therefore this page prefers to stay coherent.
Also, Marco Daniele, who was Vice-President in the term 2018/19, took over the duty of Acting President of AEGEE-Europe during the Agora in Bucharest in May 2019. He had this office for five days. However, since the table only lists elected or appointed interim positions, he is not listed here as President of an own board.
The list also does not contain CD assistants.
The list was compiled from various sources: an incomplete list of former CDs on the AEGEE-Europe website, old AEGEE Address Books from the times when they were still printed, the 10th Anniversary Book of AEGEE, several Keys to Europe and also from e-mails by the respective CDs with announcements of their task division. Also former CD members such as Alfonso Giordano helped a lot! As you can see, the list contains all names, but not all board positions. If you can help adding the missing information, please contact me! I will also try to add photos of as many CD members as possible.
Until then: have fun scrolling through the list!
